About the Artist
Hi! My name is Theresa and welcome to my creative corner. I am an award-winning graphic designer, illustrator, and lettering artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My love for art began as soon as I could hold a pencil, and letters have captivated me for as long as I can remember. Inspired by my mother’s cursive handwriting and a chance discovery of a Speedball textbook in my childhood home, I received my first calligraphy kit at age 11—and never looked back.
I am a member of IAMPETH, WCG, MassScribes, and a past president of my local calligraphy guild, Escribiente. My work has been featured in Bound & Lettered, Paper & Ink Arts, and The Weekly Alibi. In 2006, I was honored with a Gold ADDY award for logo design. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from The Art Center Design College (now SUVA) and am the only person in New Mexico certified to teach American Cursive Handwriting, a title I earned in 2019 from Crown Calligraphy and Master Penman Michael Sull in Denver, Colorado. I have earned countless blue ribbons, People's Choice Awards and 5 Best of Show awards at The New Mexico State Fair for my calligraphy, artwork, photography and scrapbook pages. I have had the privilege of penning the official invitations for New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s first-term inauguration and contributing to projects for books and television.
Creativity fuels every part of my life, from calligraphy and cursive handwriting instruction to painting landscapes, maps, and wildlife, as well as engraving and large-scale murals. In fall 2025 and spring 2026, I will be teaching Botanical Illustration and Lettering at the Denver Botanic Gardens, blending my love of nature and lettering into a unique artistic experience.
Beyond lettering, my artistic journey has expanded into photography through Bella Reina Beauty & Boudoir Photography, where I capture timeless, elegant portraits. Whether through ink, paint, or lens, my passion is to create art that brings beauty and meaning into the world.

Silver Swirl Studios is a creative studio specializing in calligraphy, hand lettering, illustration, and engraving. We bring artistry and craftsmanship to every project, whether it’s custom calligraphy for weddings and events, personalized engraving, or beautifully illustrated designs. In addition, we offer graphic design services, including logo creation, branding, and promotional materials, ensuring your vision comes to life with elegance and precision.
We also offer live event calligraphy, engraving, and pyrography, providing a unique and interactive experience for your guests. Whether at weddings, corporate events, or brand activations, we create on-the-spot personalized keepsakes, making every occasion unforgettable.
We operate by appointment only and are available for correspondence Monday – Friday from 12 PM to 6 PM. We cherish our family time, so Saturday availability is limited, and we do not schedule appointments or answer emails on Sundays. Any weekend inquiries will be responded to first thing Monday.
